Additional Details

In 1940, the twin brothers Morgan Smith (1910-1993) and Marvin Smith (1910-2003) established a photography studio at 243 W. 125th Street next to the Apollo Theatre. This portrait probably dates from during or shortly after World War Two, when Marvin was in Europe and Morgan remained at the studio, which remained in operation through 1968.
